Parents and Swimmers
Benefits of Swimming
Swimming is an ideal sport, with considerable benefits:
- Develops high quality aerobic endurance, the most important key to physical fitness.
- Supports proportional muscular development by using all major muscle groups.
- Enhances children's natural flexibility.
- Helps develop superior coordination.
- Is the most injury-free of children's sports.
- Brings kids fitness and enjoyment for life.
In addition, learning and using swimming skills engages the thinking process. Their accomplishments in learning and using new skills contribute to a stronger self-image and promote self-confidence.
Club Dues and Fees
Hampton Dolphins members are responsible for payment of dues and fees including, but not limited to, the following:
- Annual Dues
- AMS Registration/Insurance Fee
- Meet Entry Fees
- Volunteer Assessment Fee
Hampton Dolphins Swim Club, like all USS Swim clubs, is run entirely by volunteers, with the exception of coaches who are paid staff. Parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer, and there are myriad opportunities for parents to led their time, talents, and abilities to the club.
Communications
Email is the primary mode of communication for the Hampton Dolphins Swim Club. Practice and meet updates, meet information, schedule changes, activities announcements and updates, and much more will be communicated via email.
Each member family has its own folder, located in a box kept at the pool. Documents and other items may be placed in these folders, as needed. Families should check their folders periodically.
On the USA swimming website you will find information about every swimmer’s times ever swum in USS competition, specific meet schedules, meet information, meet directions, meet warm-up times, and much more! Visit
www.amswim.org.
Volunteering
Parent and family participation is a crucial comoponent of running our club. In order to keep fees/dues down, we host three meets a year and expect each family to volunteer for each meet. Please refer to the two documents below which describe the volunteer requirements and the positions at the meets. If you have any questions, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Terri Ronald.
General Membership Meetings
The club holds several General Membership Meetings throughout the season, during which the Board of Directors may share club information and news, discuss topics of interest, hold elections, answer questions, and address other club issues. All club members will be notified by email of a membership meeting at least two weeks prior to each scheduled meeting. Minutes of each meeting will be posted on the website.
Club Activities
Annual Banquet - Held in the spring, the annual Hampton Dolphins Swim Banquet recognizes and celebrates all swimmers for their efforts and achievements throughout the year.
Other Group Activities - A number of group activities are planned throughout the year, such as parties after practice. Participation is voluntary.
